KEDA Update

Greetings again from Voyageur Country. November has passed and for many that meant taking to the woods in pursuit of the white-tail deer. Deer hunting is extremely popular in Koochiching County and as important as bagging a trophy white-tailed is for some, for many people, the tradition of gathering with family and friends in hunting camps in the familiar woods of northern Minnesota is the most important of the season.

With this newsletter, we'd like to share some of the flavor of deer hunting season, which remains a vital part of the quality of life here.... Also, we'd like to highlight a new business to our area - Arro of the North - that provides professional land surveying and civil engineering services. And, we'd like to introduce you to an artist that has returned to the area. And with every newsletter, we'd like to provide an update on projects and noteworthy events in our area...

Whether referred to as the shack, the farm, or "The Polish Ponderosa" - shack life is about far more than the hunt. For many, hunting season is a special time of year that means family, friends and traditions while others continue the shack traditions all year long. Hunting shacks vary from the well worn shacks to the nicely appointed homes away from home with rustic appeal and everything in between...

Cherie Serrano

Most who have visited Rainy Lake would agree the breathtaking beauty and serenity is like no other…the perfect setting for an artist.

Local artist Cherie Serrano has returned home to the awe-inspiring beauty that surrounded her as a child. Serrano, born in Ontario, Canada grew up on a hobby farm and later Taylor's Cove, her family's resort on the Canadian side of Rainy Lake. Serrano's natural talent, supportive environment and appreciation of nature inspired her love of painting at a young age. She received her first paint set at the age of thirteen and started out painting mostly landscapes..
